Pets at the Beach

Welcome to 2020 everyone!  The new year is beginning with an out-and-about meeting led by Kathy Pantling.....Pets at the Beach.  No - you don't need to bring your own pets - 'models' are provided.
Date:  Monday 10th February 2020

Meet:  Rear of the skating rink, Tahunanui

Time:  7pm (sun sets at  8:38 so we will have some lovely light pre and post setting.) It will be a prompt start as we don’t want the animals to get bored.

Wear:  Clothes that you are okay getting a bit mucky, getting low or sitting on the floor - shots can be taken from standing and I will adapt the workshop so that some great shots can be captured at all stances. But to get a great shot you may need to get to the animals level so we may have the opportunity to raise up the pet on logs etc.   You will be instructed on making strange noises to get the attention of the pets so leave your pride at home :-).

Equipment :
  • A fast lens 2.8 or below is recommend - 70-200 or micro4/3 equivalent.
  • A wide angle - the wider the better for a fun close up and to include some of the environment.
  • Tripods not needed for this shoot.
  • Good quality treats may come in handy  like fillet steak, beef sausages ….just kidding the owner/s will bring some.
  • Bring a lens cloth as you may get some lens art on the glass from a wet nose.

  • I will give a brief do’s and dont's on the day and some guidance on animal behaviour and what to look for. Please remember animals are a bit like most 2 year olds and have a similar attention span, frequent breaks will be provided for our model.  I will also provide some post processing hints and tips for removing leashes, ear boogies fluff etc.
  • Closer to the time I will send out the same information that I would send to a client to prepare for a shoot so that you have an idea of what to do should you go on to arrange your own pet photo shoots.
